Tonga launches State of Environment Report

The Government of Tonga today launched their State of Environment Report during the commemoration of World Environment Day.

Hon. Prime Minister Dr Pohiva Tu’ionetoa and Hon. Frederica Tuita Filipe launched the report and planted Heilala trees at the St George Building in Nuku’alofa.

State of Environment reports are periodic assessments of key environment indicators that together paint a picture of the condition of the environment for different countries.

According to sources, the Tonga SOE was funded by the Global Environment Facility and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). It was coordinated by the Secretariat of the Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) and implemented in country by the Tongan Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.
